I've notice Dell has a tendency to advertise Windows Vista at every given opportunity on Dell.com. Even in the Linux and open source pages Windows Vista is right there in our faces.
On the Linux community page there is a video of the Latitude XT being demonstrated with Windows Vista. Why? When consumers finally find the opensource PCs area there are links encouraging them to go buy a Windows PC instead.
Please drop these hard sell tactics you deployed on Microsoft's behalf. If I want Windows Vista I'll choose a PC with Windows Vista pre-installed. There are plenty to choose from.
Advertise LINUX! I can't understand why Dell doesn't do this. I don't by the market demand argument. If there was no demand for Linux Dell wouldn't have been involved with it for nearly a DECADE!
If there is no consumer demand for Linux then why is just about every PC manufacturer out there clamoring to push out budget systems with Linux pre-installed? Why did the Asus Eee PC sell over a million units? Why is Googles Android based on Linux and why are mobile device vendors eyeing the mobile version of Ubuntu?
People buy Windows from Dell because that's all Dell will sell them. But look at what happened with XP and Vista. As soon as people have a choice, they choose the OS they want. They choose the OS that suits their wallet and their needs best.
